Police arrests man who drugs his victims with tea, biscuits before stealing their cars
A notorious car thief who specialized in drugging his victims before stealing their vehicles within Abuja, Benue and Kogi States, has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector- General of Police Special Intelligence Response team. Eight vehicles suspected to have been stolen from the suspect's victims have been recovered. The suspect is currently on detention at the Force Headquarters, Abuja... According to Vanguard, The 49-year-old suspect while confessing to the crime, said; “I am Garuba Ibrahim, 49. I am from Otukpo area of Benue State. I am married with four children. I deal on fairly used shoes and I buy my shoes from Jos, Plateau State but in the year 2013, I went into selling cars. I used to go to Cotonou through Birini-Kebbi, but when my father died, I was asked to come home. When I got there, the elders told me that my father said I should stay at home before he died. Before that, there was an arraignment I had with my sister that if I should stay at home, they will pay me N100, 000 monthly. I stayed until 2015, the money stopped coming. Then, I was into farming of kola nut, maize and I harvested it. I made over N330, 000. I gave my family N50, 000, and I took the rest to Birini Kebbi where I went into car business. Gains from car business: As soon as I went into the business, I started making huge profits from it. I was into buying and selling of vehicles. Then one day, I took a vehicle from Makurdi to Gboko and offered the driver food. I bought Semovita and soup and drugged it without the driver’s knowledge. We then drove to the secretariat and he started eating. As soon as he tasted the food, he started feeling dizzy. I brought his floor mat and he slept on it. Before then, I asked him to give me his car key to scratch my ear which he willingly obliged. I then drove the car, a Golf 3 station wagon, down to Otukpo and gave it to a man they call Chiama. I sold it to him for N500, 000. Fourteen days later, I travelled to Abuja and took a cab to Sheraton hotel. When we got there, I paid him and asked that he should wait for me. I went to the swimming pool, sat down there and when I got out, I asked him to take me to another hotel. When we got there, I paid for a room and we went inside. Then we decided to get something to eat. After that, he bought bread and I bought some other items. When we went back to the hotel and we were about eating, I bought a packet of biscuit and cleverly drugged it. I also bought a bottle of beer and offered him one of the drugged slices of biscuit and he ate it. Thirty minutes later, he slept off. I took the key to the car, a Toyota Picnic and drove off. I took the car to Kano and sold it to one Abdulraman for N600, 000. I found two phones in the car and gave one to my mother in-law and a sister to my wife. The man who taught me the trick of drugging my victim is Ibrahim Dogo from Sokoto state.”

Man who once killed a man in a road rage incident, gets killed in another one
After a traffic mishap in Florida’s Hillsborough County on Wednesday, Gary Lynn Durham got out of his car and exchanged heated words with another driver which ended with Durham dying from a gunshot wound on the side of the road, police said.
Police found that Durham had recently been released from prison for killing a man in road rage confrontation in 2001. Police say Durham punched a 48-year-old cancer survivor , Tim Gibbs, in the face at an intersection as the two men argued 15 years ago in Tampa, Florida and the fatal punch killed the man. Durham was subsequently convicted of manslaughter and sentenced in 2002. He spent the next 10 years behind bars.
The deadly confrontation in October 2001 happened on the city’s north side. A witness told investigators that Durham cut Tim Gibbs off outside a 7-Eleven store.
“At that point, the victim drove off and ended up in a parking lot of a business at 10001 N. Armenia, where he was known by fellow friends,” a police report states. “The suspect pulled up in his vehicle and approached the victim. The victim was seen balling up his fist, but the suspect punched him once and caused the victim to fall backwards onto the concrete pavement.”
Investigators say Gibbs hit his head on the pavement after being punched by Durham. He died days later from brain injuries and a skull fracture, police said at the time. Durham was charged with manslaughter and ultimately convicted. He was sentenced to 11 1/2 years in prison, according to NBC affiliate WFLA. He was on probation when he had the altercation with Padgett in Plant City, east of Tampa.
After his release, the judge also required Durham to take anger management classes. Now, he is dead in a similar incident.
“It’s a shame that he didn’t learn his lesson while in jail,” Nancy Gibbs, Tim Gibbs’s widow, told the Tampa Bay Times after learning Durham had died in a road rage incident.
“I’m just glad I don’t have to worry about him or running into him somewhere. It’s ironic that he died in the same way as my husband.”
Durham was killed on Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to Martin Luther King Boulevard in the Tampa suburbs about a shooting and when they got there, they found Durham lying dead in the street, with Robert Padgett standing nearby.
“Durham and Padgett were involved in a traffic road rage incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The altercation, sheriff’s officials said, “ended with Padgett firing at least one round from a handgun that struck and killed Durham.”
Padgett has not yet been charged with a crime, and investigators say he’s been cooperative.
Durham’s wife, Heather, told the Tampa Bay Times that they got married in 2015, after he was released on probation.
“Just because he went to jail, that did not define who he was,” she told the newspaper. “He wasn’t this angry person who went around angry all the time. People only see the side that the media spreads. They don’t know him like I did or his family did.”

13 year old schoolgirl who was abused by 137 paedophiles over 2 years reveals only 3 have been jailed
A schoolgirl Paula Smith (not her real name) who was abducted from her school, taken to a house and raped for over two years at the age of 13 by 137 paedophiles has revealed that only three were ever jailed by the Police.
According to her she was groomed by a man on Facebook who for two years repeatedly abused her and also pimped her out to other child molesters online after sharing her profile on swinger sites without her knowledge.
Different paedophiles will travel from across the country to abuse Paula, meeting her in city centre hotels or houses and in one occasion she was allegedly tasered.
According to reports from Birmingham mail, Paula claims social services, her school, and police failed to swiftly end her nightmare ordeal, despite obvious signs she was being sexually exploited as a child and when her mum reported to police after growing suspicious, she provided names, addresses and even car registrations of those who had abused her but only three have been jailed so far.
Her schoolteacher William Hanna, 66, his girlfriend Dianne Whitehouse, 61, and Ian McGlasson, 50, were sentenced to a total of 19 years but reports say two other suspects committed suicide when they found out they were going to be arrested.
Paula, who is now aged 22 and a young mum of two kids, now wants to know why police seemingly called a halt to their investigation after three convictions, despite her providing them with a lot of concrete evidence.
“I gave police the names of 137 men, many of their car registrations, I even knew where some of them worked. But the police told my mum that what had happened to me was so big and complex that they would only focus on the main ones.”In November 2008 she says she was targeted by pensioner Nigel Greaves who pulled up in his car as she was walking to school.
Paula said:
“He called me by name, said where I lived and then asked me to get into his car. I assumed Nan had arranged for him to come and pick me up.
“He drove me towards Nan’s house but then headed to his instead. I asked him why and he said he needed to pick something up and asked me to go inside. Once inside, he dragged me upstairs.”Paula says she was repeatedly raped before later being dropped off by Greaves in Birmingham city centre.
Battered and dazed, she went to the Children’s Hospital, where she had been under the care of a psychiatrist. She recalled: “The psychiatrist called the police, my Nan and I had a medical and swabs were taken.
“But I was too scared to tell them who had attacked me as he knew my address and had threatened to do to my little sister what he had done to me.”Days later she was targeted on Facebook by paedophile Ian McGlasson after she hinted at the trauma she had been through online.
Paula said:
“He messaged me over Facebook and then on the phone. He said he was a counsellor who could help me. I eventually agreed to meet him for a coffee at a hotel in Birmingham. He said we could not go to his office as he had taken on this case himself.”Paula met Ian McGlasson in the hotel lobby, still in her school uniform, then he took her to his room where he raped her.
She said:
“We sat and talked for an hour and I became upset. He then sat next to me and began touching my leg. He then covered my mouth with his hand and pushed me down and raped me. Afterwards he said he was really sorry, he said he just wanted me to feel loved.”Paula confused, shocked and emotionally unstable then returned home but did not report the attack to police - and McGlasson continued the grooming on Facebook.
She said:
“He kept contacting me, saying he was sorry and genuinely wanted to help me. Because I was so depressed and vulnerable, I believed him.”McGlasson later offered Paula a ‘weekend therapy session’ at his home in Stratford-upon-Avon, paying for her train fare from Birmingham. When she arrived at his house, the abuse continued.
“He gave me alcohol, and put something in my drink to make me fall asleep,” she recalled. When I woke up at one point, I was gagged and tied to the bed and he was having sex with me. He was also filming it all.
“The following morning, I woke up and it was as if nothing had happened. He even cooked breakfast.”The abuse continued for close to two years and then McGlasson started buying her presents including jewelry, then introduced Paula to William Hanna and Dianne Whitehouse, other paedophiles who started abusing her and introducing her online to other paedophiles in the country.
Paula said:
“Ian had suggested I see other people and I was too scared to say no. He would say,’my friend wants to meet you. The more you struggle the more you will get hurt.’”Paula says over the 21 months she was abused by more than 137 paedophiles.
“They were from Scotland, Ireland, Devon, London, Oxford, everywhere. They were all ages, including a 19-year-old Birmingham university student,” she said. I mostly met then in hotels, but the ones from Birmingham I would meet at their houses. They were all members of the same website.”Hanna and Whitehouse violently abused Paula, as well as pimping her out to others.
She said:
“They were violent, forceful and threatening. Yet at the same time Ian began saying how he loved me, he was making out like I was his girlfriend and I guess I fell for it.”Paula said:
“I was strangled, had a knife held to my throat, had multiple men rape me. I was belted by various people. One man even tasered me.”She claims that man was Andrew Bicknell, from Birmingham, who allegedly abused her for many months, including an attack involving up to eight other men at his home.“I blamed bullying at school for the bruises and the school never picked up on anything. My attendance from 2008 to mid 2010 went down to 12 per cent but the school said nothing. There were no letters to my family.”
Everything ended when McGlasson messaged Paula’s mum over Facebook when he could not get in touch with the schoolgirl, the suspicious mum now called police who now made arrests.
Hanna, from Acocks Green, was convicted of three counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child and of causing/inciting involvement in pornography. He was jailed for seven years.
Whitehouse, from Cannock, was found guilty of two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child and causing/inciting involvement in pornography. She was sentenced to six years.
McGlasson, from Stratford-upon-Avon, pleaded guilty to six counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child and two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and was jailed for six years.
Paula says she feels she's still not received justice because of the many abusers still out there.
“I told police everything, but only about 12 people were arrested and only three were ever charged. Police did not tell me why, but they told my mum they wanted to concentrate on the main offenders.”Paula, a proud mum of two is now helping other victims of CSE and abuse, having recently arranged a talk for fellow survivors.
She said:
“When Ian was arrested I had an idea I still loved him. But I was still brainwashed. Since then I’ve done lots to understand child abuse, domestic abuse and recovery. I got all the help I need, now I want to help others. Everything is looking up.”Source: Birmingham Mail/ Mirror UK

Nigerian oil scam: American man sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for defrauding investors
A Las Vegas man who served in the U.S. Marine Corps was on Tuesday, July 19 sentenced to 25 years in federal prison Tuesday for defrauding investors and the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department in a large-scale multimillion dollar Nigerian oil investment scheme, the Justice Department announced. Anton Paul Drago, 65, formerly known as Evan Fogarty also was ordered to pay $2.3 million in restitution and serve five years of supervised release after prison. Drago was convicted by a jury in March of 10 felony counts — including wire fraud, submitting false government claims, theft of government funds, lying to federal agents and failing to file a federal tax return. "Today’s sentence reflects the serious nature of Mr. Drago’s crimes and the substantial harm he inflicted on his investors and the U.S. government," said Caroline D. Ciraolo, an assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s tax division in Washington, D.C. "When confronted with his extensive fraudulent conduct by federal agents, rather than come clean, Mr. Drago chose to double down on his lies and continue the scheme that funded his extravagant lifestyle." The evidence presented at trial showed that Drago orchestrated a large-scale Nigerian oil investment fraud scheme from 2004 through 2012. He told investors that the money they invested would be used for legal fees and business expenses to fund the production, refinement and shipping of crude oil from Nigeria to the Bahamas and that the money would fund the purchase of an oil refinery in the Bahamas. Drago lied to investors about his background and falsely claimed that he was an engineer and expert in the oil industry with over 30 years of experience working worldwide. He also falsely told investors that he was the grandson of the Shell Oil founder and heir to a $500 million trust that he had already spent on the Nigerian oil investment deal. Investors gave Drago and his co-conspirator, Joseph Rizzuti, more than $2 million that they had used on personal expenses such as rent, groceries, membership at the Tournament Players Club Summerlin golf club, car maintenance, jewelry and travel and luxury purchases at Louis Vuitton among other stores. Drago also failed to file his 2007 federal income tax return in a timely manner, according to the release.Drago attempted to negotiate a fictitious financial instrument purporting to be an International Bill of Exchange worth $10 million at a Wells Fargo branch in Las Vegas. Drago also lied to federal agents of the Internal Revenue Service who were investigating him and told them that all of the investor money went to Nigeria. At the same time Drago was perpetrating the oil scheme, he falsely claimed individual unemployability compensation benefits from the Veterans Affairs. Drago and a co-defendant promised investors a short-term turnaround with a return of up to 400 percent, according to federal prosecutors. But instead of investing the more than $2 million in the oil deal, the two defendants used the money for personal expenses. The case was investigated by IRS-Criminal Investigation and the Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Kidnapper arrested as he picks up N3m ransom
The Akwa Ibom police command has arrested three suspected kidnappers identified as Austin Agba, 35; Friday Sunday Paul, 23, and Christian Ekenu, 27, after their leader simply identified as Agba, went to pick up the N3 million ransom from relatives of one of their kidnapped victims at Olympus Hotel, along Afaha Uqua Road, Eket Local Government Area. Bayelsa State-born Agba who denied being a kidnapper, had gone to the said hotel in Eket to collect the N3 million he had negotiated for the pirates from the fishermen when the police apprehended him. ‘I’m a middleman. I am just an Ijaw man and a middleman to the Ijaw fishermen and the pirates. So, there are certain groups of fishermen that normally contribute money to the pirates to make sure they do their businesses smoothly. When the pirates had a meeting with the fishermen, they said I am the one that would be negotiating the monthly payment. The fishermen said if they negotiate directly, the pirates will charge them too high, but if I intervene, the pirates will bring down the levy because I am an Ijaw brother. On that fateful day, I went to collect the money to settle the pirates so that they would allow the fishermen do their business. It was in the process that I was arrested". Denying being a kidnapper, another member of the gang, 23 year old Friday Sunday Paul, from Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, whose duty it was to convey victims on his motorbike, said on the contrary, he was kidnapped by the group members. “I was riding my bike along Afaha Uqua Road junction when three guys stopped me. Two of them climbed the bike and told me to take them somewhere. On getting there, one of them put his hand in my trouser and said I must take them to where they were going to. They used a gun to threaten me, saying they were going for an operation. I am not one of them. I was set up"he said Ekenu, who is from Oron Local Government Area, said “I came in from Lagos to meet my friend, Tony. I am an artist. When I arrived Oron, he asked me how much I came with and I said I did not come with any money. He called his friends and said they should take my shoes, watch and phones. When they went outside the room, I escaped through the ceiling and ran to the police station. Unfortunately for me, along the road, they picked me and took me to the police station, saying I was a kidnapper. It is for that reason that I am here. I do not understand any of these.” Refuting their claims, the spokesperson of the Akwa Ibom Police command, Delia Nwawe, said they were members of the same gang, who were arrested following each suspect’s confessional statement

Former DR Congo vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba jailed over war crimes
The International Criminal Court has sentenced ex-rebel leader and former Congolese vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba to 18 years for murders, rapes and pillaging committed by his troops in the Central African Republic more than a decade ago. The verdicts announced today Tuesday, June 21, focused on the actions of his troops, as Bemba commanded a private army of 1,500 men who intervened in the neighbouring Central African Republic's civil war. "The chamber sentences Mr Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo to a total of 18 years of imprisonment," said judge Sylvia Steiner, ruling that the former militia leader had failed to exercise control over his private army sent into the Central African Republic in late October 2002 where they carried out "sadistic" rapes, murders and pillaging of "particular cruelty". Fadi El Abdullah, a spokesman for the ICC told Al Jazeera the ruling was "important for the victims" and "the first time they would see justice for the crimes they suffered from". Prosecutors at the ICC had called for a minimum 25-year jail term in the landmark case, the first to focus on rape as a weapon of war by the ICC, which was set up in 2002 to try the world's worst crimes. Bemba was convicted in March on two counts of crimes against humanity as well as three counts of war crimes. His arrest in 2008 came as a surprise both to Bemba and his supporters and opponents at home. He had been living in semi-exile in Europe for several years when prosecutors sprung a trap by issuing an arrest warrant during a visit to Belgium, Congo's former colonial master. His forces the Movement for the Liberation of Congo militia (MLC) had deliberately targeted civilians as part of a "modus operandi" as they sought to halt the coup bid against the Central African Republic's then-president Ange-Felix Patasse.Men, women and children were all raped - in one case three generations of the same family were gang-raped by MLC soldiers who held them at gunpoint and forced relatives to watch. Bemba's lawyer have already said they will appeal against his conviction. Geraldine Mattioli-Zeltner, international justice advocacy director at Human Rights Watch, said the sentence offered "a measure of justice" for the victims. "Other commanders should take notice that they, too, can be held accountable for rapes and other serious abuses committed by troops under their control," she said.
